Lick and A Bite

If anyone has ice cream, Ryder would like to have "lick and a bite." Originally he would always ask for a lick, even if we had ice cream in a cup instead of on a cone. So we tried to explain to him that when it's a cone you get a lick, but when it's on a spoon you get a bite. In response, he came up with this phrase "lick and a bite." And that's literally what he wants--both a lick and a bite--regardless of whether you have a cone or a cup. If it's a cone, he will lick it and then mash his mouth against it to take a "bite," which essentially entails sucking on the ice cream. If it's in a cup, he still wants a lick before his bite, which means he will lick the bottom of the spoon before he takes his bite. Luckily for him, we're always willing to share a "lick and a bite."
