State Fair

Sorry I don't have any digital pics from our fair day, but I'll just have to tell the story. We spent Aug 12 (I guess two weekends ago now), at the state fair. That was our anniversary, which sounds funny, but we actually went on our first date in college to the state fair, so it was sweet and reminiscent. Plus we all had fun. The Indiana State Fair was pretty much like all the other state fairs we've been to, which was just what we expected and just what we wanted. This was Ryder's first state fair--though we always went when we lived in Wisconsin (I guess because it was in Milwaukee), we didn't attend the state fair when we lived in Kansas, so it was fun to take Ryder for the first time. He loved all the animals, the highlight being when he got to pet a cow and a rabbit. Among the fair treats that we sampled, Ryder got to try his first corndog, which he enjoyed quite a bit, though he mostly liked the "cornbread," as he put it. They had a wonderful children's exhibit where Ryder got to pretend to be a farmer and do all the work that farmers do on a farm, including plant seeds, harvest fruits and vegetables, feed animals, ride a tractor, milk a cow, and take his goods to market. He even earned "money" from selling his goods that he got to use to buy something in the farm store. Ryder was very proud to pick out popcorn to buy with his money. What a wonderful day at the fair!
