Government stupidity

Interesting article about the "supposed link" between co-sleeping and SIDS. Pretty much says the data interpretation is really crummy. (As a research person, this made Drew really angry, leading to him telling me to post this article.) As you all know, we co-sleep, are big supporters and thinks it's wonderful. But you've got to do what works for your own family. The main thing is when people say, "You should never co-sleep because it's not safe!" It's simply not true!! There are unsafe ways to co-sleep and unsafe ways to crib-sleep, but there are also safe ways to do both. It just drives me nuts when people dismiss it without knowing, acknowledging or, in this case, misleading people with misinterpreted data. Oh, and the kicker--who is funding and co-sponsoring the Consumer Products Safety Commission's research into whether or not co-sleeping leads to an increase risk of SIDS and their big advertising push "NEVER SLEEP WITH YOUR BABY!" ? An association of crib manufacturers. Because that doesn't seem like a conflict of interest for a government group to take money from one of the parties that the outcome of the stud will greatly benefit and then to be found to be greatly skewing the numbers in favor of that party. Very sketchy stuff. Made Drew and I both so frustrated. But the article is an interesting read.
