Ryder's new favorite pastime whenever we go to the store is looking for Thomas. Now, my mom and I probably created this a little bit because sometimes when he didn't want to get out of the car at a store we would tell him that maybe they had Thomas' inside for us to look at. So now every time we go to the store he tells me that we're going to look for Thomas. And it's getting a little excessive. Yesterday my parents mentioned that they were going to stop at Kohl's and Ryder came in from the other room to tell them, "I will come too!" And the other day we were just stopping at Costco to get milk, so I was going to run and my mom was going to stay in the car with Ryder so he could watch his Thomas DVDs. Keep in mind that normally he's the one asking to stay in the car and keep watching since that's the only place he gets to watch TV or DVDs at all and he does love to watch Thomas. Instead we have the following conversation:
Ryder: I want to come.
Mommy: But we're just running in to get milk and you can stay here and watch Thomas.
Ryder: But I want to look for Thomas inside.
Mommy: They don't have Thomas here. (This is a minor fib since they do have Thomas DVDs)
Ryder: Is it Target? (I know he's thinking, "Because I know they have Thomas at Target!"
Mommy: No, it's Costco.
Ryder: Well, I want to come and I will find some Thomases.
So we went in and low and behold he did manage to spot the few boxes of Thomas DVDs--it's like some sort of freaky tracking sense. Normally this process works out mainly in my favor because he's happy to come shopping. But it does mean that we spend a lot of time in the store looking at Thomas when we find him. Luckily, he's very good at understanding that Thomas at the store is just for looking at!
